A comment on Javier Marias’ novel: Thus Bad Begins

Javier Marias,(1951.2022) in his novel “Thus Bad Begins”- “Ondt er Begyndt”-in Danish, in its 507 pages, is an epical fiction one wishes that the full stop at its end does not exist. The demarcation line between truth & fantasy is blurred. Excitement & curiosity envelop the whole novel from the beginning to the end. We were invited to Spain’s life post Franco through Juan de Vere, who was hired by film instructor Eduardo Muriels to follow Dr Van Vechten’s misdeeds, whether towards Eduardo’s wife Beatriz or the others. Passionate, in depth analysis, spectacular & comprehensive approach to the inner folds of the human being, makes the novel a marvelous star of enjoyment & fun to read.
